Fran Vanhoutte

500m, 1000m, Mass Start

Date of birth

Following in the footsteps of her sister Stien, Fran began her skating journey on wheels and later transitioned to the ice during the 2018-2019 season.

In 2020, she represented Belgium at the Winter Youth Olympics, competing in the 1500-meter race, the team sprint, and the mass start.

Her momentum was briefly interrupted during the European inline skating championships for juniors in 2021 when a serious fall disrupted her series of three gold medals. However, she bounced back at the Junior World Championships, securing two bronze medals after starting with a fifth-place finish.

Transitioning to the ice, Fran made her mark in the fall of 2021 by setting Belgian junior records in the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m events. Her breakthrough moment came on December 5 in Inzell, where she secured bronze in the mass start, marking Belgium’s first-ever medal in the junior World Cup.

In December 2023, Fran made her debut in the senior World Cup circuit in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Poland. She impressed with a third-place finish in the mass start, earning her a spot in the prestigious A-group in Calgary. Later that season, she competed in the European Championships n the 500m, 1000m, and the mass start. She also participated in the World Championships representing Belgium in the Mass Start.

A promising talent in Belgian skating and a name to watch in international competitions.
